What is Meharry Dental Oral Health Day?

OHD stands for Oral Health Day. The Meharry Dental Oral Health Day will provide free dental services to 200 + uninsured adults in our area in a one-day dental clinic. The clinic will serve patients on a first come, first serve basis.

Where and when will Meharry Dental Oral Health Day take place?

The OHD will take place in the Spring of 2018 on March 10, 2018 . The event will start at 7:00 a.m. Patients MUST report to Henry A Moses Ph.D Alumni Hall for registration/check-in. Patient will NOT be seen at the dental school until after they have registered. Please see the map below for parking, driving directions, and event location.

Who sponsors Meharry Dental Oral Health Day?

OHD is organized by Meharry ASDA, student organization, to serve citizens with little or no access to dental care. OHD is co-sponsored by Meharry ASDA, Remote Area Medical (RAM), and the School of Dentistry.

What dental services will be delivered?

Dental services provided will include: 1) Preventative dentistry—teeth cleaning, fluoride application, sealants, oral hygiene, and nutritional counseling; 2) Restorative dentistry—fillings; and 3) Extractions, limited surgery. Each patient will receive at least one dental service. If the patient needs more than one service a list of other dental care resources where they may receive treatment will be provided.

Who is eligible to receive free dental services?

OHD will serve working poor, underinsured, and uninsured people in need of dental care. OHD serves people with no other dental care option. OHD project will serve adults over 18 years of age. Ideally we would like to partner with surrounding homeless shelters.

How can individuals receive dental services?

Dental care will be provided on a first come, first served basis. Doors will open promptly at 8:00 a.m.

What must a patient bring with them to receive care? 

We ask that patients provide proper identification.  

​

Who delivers the dental services?

All dental services will be delivered by fully accredited dentists and supervised dental student volunteers.

How can I support Meharry Dental Oral Health Day?

You can support the Meharry Dental Oral Health Day by volunteering in any one of a number of ways. More than 150 volunteers are necessary to make the day run smoothly. Volunteers are needed for many tasks, and any help you can give will be greatly appreciated: dental and medical professionals; patient registration; site set-up and take- down; parking and traffic control; trash pick up; Spanish language translators; crowd control; food donations and distribution; records management and transcription, and event planning support. If you cannot volunteer, you can help by donating money to help defray the cost of the event.
